Kenneth Noland: A Retrospective
Oct 01–Nov 27, 1977
This exhibition surveyed the work of Kenneth Noland (1924-2010), who first achieved note while living in Washington, DC. At the Hirshhorn, 45 early Noland works were on view, ranging from his “target” paintings of the late 1950s to his elliptical and chevron abstractions of the 1960s. Simultaneously at the Corcoran, later works were on view, including Noland’s striped and plaid motif paintings and his color work. Works were from the Guggenheim Museum, New York.
