The Hirshhorn's Sculpture Garden is transformed into an outdoor creative space and laboratory for building.

Calling all budding architects: Let’s build! Build Day is an all-ages family program, ideal for ages 12 and under. Elementary school artists will be featured. Join Hirshhorn Kids, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) Arts, and Boolean Girl for a hands-on exploration of design and building.

Find us on the Hirshhorn Plaza. In the event of inclement weather, this event will move indoors.

Stroller parking is available in the Lobby and Lower Level.

  • Tour a City Design Exhibition featuring artwork and Build Day projects by DCPS elementary students citywide.
  • Make an LED sculpture inspired by Olafur Eliasson: Create a suspended sculpture from paper, string, LEDs and other materials with Boolean Girl
  • Explore student-made 3D-printed building replicas with George Washington University’s Fab Lab.
  • Take a cue from Alexander Calder: Construct 3D structures from blocks, bricks, and more, at our hands-on maker stations.
  • Building and play zones for artists of all ages.
