Join Hirshhorn ARTLAB mentor, artist, and creative technologist Ian McDermott for an exploration into facial recognition software, which we see increasingly integrated into our lives through smart phones, police surveillance, airport security, and, as you will discover at the Hirshhorn, artwork and robots. Diving into the technology used by the studio of artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, whose exhibition Pulse is on view on the Hirshhorn’s Second Level, and that animates the Pepper robots that are greeting visitors at Smithsonian museums, Ian will discuss how this software works, how it can be used, and how it can even be fooled with by a little face paint.
