The Magic Flute

Enjoy classical music from an eye-opening perspective with a viewing of artist Frances Stark’s The Magic Flute (2017), a reimagined version of Mozart’s famous opera. Using a youth orchestra, subverting characters’ genders and replacing vocals with woodwinds, this experimental film bridges the worlds of popular and classical music with contemporary art to speak to a broad audience. The project sets out to rethink the history of where we come from and raises pointed questions: How did hip-hop get to where it is? How did contemporary art in Los Angeles get to where it is? How did we arrive at the culture we’re in?

Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
