Margolles

Join Alberto Fierro Garza, Minister for Culture and Education at the Mexican Cultural Institute, for a look at the deeply affecting installation Karla, Hilario Reyes Gallegos by Teresa Margolles. Currently on view in What Absence Is Made Of, the installation features a striking portrait of Karla, a transgender sex worker in Juarez, Mexico, situated among other materials connected to her brutal murder. Garza will expound on this harrowing memorial, as well as the highly political installations Margolles prepared for Mexico’s Pavilion at the 2009 Venice Biennale and her work in Juarez with trans women, particularly trans women of color, who have fallen victim to homicide.
