Join interdisciplinary publishing initiative Press Press in contributing to an expanded version of the group’s project, Sentiments: Expressions of Cultural Passage, a manifesto produced with immigrants and immigrant-adjacent individuals to cultivate a collaborative understanding of the concept of sanctuary. Over the past two years, Press Press has held workshops in Baltimore, New York City, and Chicago, inviting participants to present their visions of sanctuary and how it exists in their communities.
Presented in conjunction with Manifesto: Art x Agency, workshop will invite participants to respond to three questions: What is sanctuary? How can sanctuary be created? How can sanctuary be protected? Through dialogue and sharing, the group will create its own set of principles that contribute to the larger manifesto.
We encourage you to arrive early. Lerner Room seating is limited. Any open seats may be released to walk-up visitors 10 minutes before the program.
About Press Press
Press Press and its core organizers, Valentina Cabezas, Kimi Hanauer, Bomin Jeon, and Bilphena Yahwon, aim to shift and deepen the understanding of voices, identities, and narratives that have historically been suppressed or misrepresented by the mainstream. Through an understanding of publishing as the act of gathering a public, Press Press’s streams of work include public cultural programming, an open-access publishing studio, youth publishing workshops, and the ongoing production of print and digital publications. Press Press operates out of a storefront studio and library in Baltimore and a production space in Los Angeles.
