Throughout her decades-long career, artist Marilyn Minter has created visually stimulating paintings, photographs, and videos that offer complex investigations into our relationships with the female body, beauty, and sexuality. Her often provocative work has taken on new subjects over time, from the banal realities of feminine life to highly sensual, make-up heavy close-ups, and her work has moved beyond the canvas to public billboards and social engagement projects in recent years. Embedded in her work is important commentary on power and agency of women, a message that has been carried over to her activism and collaborative projects with the likes of Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and art historian Andrianna Campbell. Join Minter for a glimpse into the evolution of her expansive practice and the projects that continue to spark important conversations about women and power.

This annual program is made possible by the Friends of Jim and Barbara Demetrion Endowment Fund, established in 2001 to celebrate Jim Demetrion’s seventeen-year tenure as the Hirshhorn’s second director.

We encourage you to arrive early. Ring Auditorium seating is limited. Any open seats may be released to walk-up visitors 10 minutes before the program.
