A bright yellow wall reads "PUT IT THIS WAY: (Re)Visions of the Hirshhorn Collection"

Meet at the Information Desk in the Lobby

Smell your way through Put It This Way: (Re)Visions of the Hirshhorn Collection on a special tour that pairs perfumes with select artworks on view. The tour will be led by Hirshhorn gallery guide Nancy Hirshbein, artist Cianne Fragione, and artist Renée Stout, whose work See the Truth is currently on view in the exhibition. The guides will offer insights and lead visitors through an olfactory experience inspired by artworks on view.

About the Exhibition

Titled after a 1963 painting by American pop artist Rosalyn Drexler, whose work is featured in the first gallery, Put It This Way speaks to traditionally marginalized artists’ decisive and virtuosic achievements, and investigates a wide array of aesthetic, political and historical concerns. The full-floor presentation is intended to encourage conversations around the significance of gender in creating and perceiving an artwork, the effects of categorizing artists by gender as well as the museum’s role and responsibilities in stewarding the national collection of modern and contemporary art.

If there are any access services or accommodations that can make your experience more inclusive, please contact hirshhornexperience@si.edu. 1-2 week’s advance notice is recommended but not required.
