Trust Me. Trust Each Other. Trust No-one.
For better or worse, people are more entwined than ever before. This year, Sound Scene will dedicate an entire weekend to new performances, installations, workshops, and more to interrogate and/or celebrate this reality.
Sound Scene is the region’s largest interactive audio art event. It is a free, all-ages celebration of sonic and sensory artists from Washington, DC and around the world.
Sound Scene began in 2001 and is organized by the DC Listening Lounge, an audio collective of Washington, DC-based sound artists and enthusiasts and produced in partnership with the Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and with support from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities.

Laurie Anderson Presents Lou Reed’s Drones
Sound Scene kicks off with a one night only performance by Grammy award-winning musician and multimedia artist Laurie Anderson, who presents a drone-based sonic experience as part of the yearlong celebration of Lou Reed’s 80th birthday. Anderson and special guests will perform live throughout the afternoon alongside an installation of guitars from her late husband’s collection that will be curated by Reed’s former guitar technician Stewart Hurwood. Reed’s instruments are arranged with a group of amplifiers to create an enveloping drone of harmonics that shifts as the sound waves and the audience move through the space.
