Hirshhorn Plaza

This exhibition traced the full range of Joseph Stella’s (1877-1946) stylistic evolution through 34 works, from his early realistic manner through the colorful, dynamic Futurism for which he is best known to his later symbolism as he experimented with a diversity of approaches and media. Works on view included abstract oil sketches for Stella’s series on Coney Island and a rare oil painting on glass.
