Landscapes on Paper: Works from the Collection
Jun 24–Sep 27, 1981
Two significant purchases were on view: Woman before an Eclipse with Her Hair Disheveled by the Wind, painted by Joan Miró (1893-1983) in 1967, epitomizes the mature style of the then 88-year-old Spanish artist, evoking a figure in bold areas of black and bright colors. Standing Woman (Heroic Woman), a seven-foot bronze cast of a sculpture by Gaston Lachaise (1882-1935) in 1932, was also on view, and is considered among the finest achievements of this French-born American artist.
