Relief Sculpture: Selections from the Museum’s Collection

This selective survey of 46 works by 36 American and European artists traced the evolution of relief sculpture – the intermediary between two- and three-dimensional art – from early- 19th-century portrait medallions to contemporary constructions and assemblages. Artists included Auguste Rodin, Thomas Eakins, Medardo Rosso, Elie Nadelman, Jacques Lipchitz, Henry Moore, Jasper Johns, David d’Angers, Edgar Degas, Auguste Renoir, John Singer Sargent, Alexander Archipenko, Red Grooms, and Louise Nevelson.
