The Arthur B. Carles Collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden
Aug 18–Oct 10, 1977
This exhibition highlighted the Hirshhorn’s collection of 14 paintings by Arthur B. Carles (1882-1952), the pioneering American Modernist, who developed a vibrantly colorful style as he worked with the traditional subjects of figure, still-life, and landscape. The Museum’s collection is especially strong in showing his varied approaches to the female figure.
