Carolee Schneemann: Meet the Artist
Thursday, April 20
6:30 pm, Ring Auditorium
Throughout her career, artist Carolee Schneemann has experimented with painting, photography, performance, and installation to transform the definition of art, especially in relation to discourse on the body, sexuality, and gender. Characteristics of her practice range from researching outdated visual traditions to exploring her own body in relation to “the social body.” Schneemann is often both the maker and the object of her art, as in works such as Eye Body: 36 Transformative Actions, a series of photographs currently on view in Masterworks from the Hirshhorn Collection.
