Storytime (PROGRAM CHANGE)

This week’s Wednesday program will be Art Cart: Harmony of Nonsense to accommodate local spring breaks and allow as many young artists as possible to join us!

Storytime: Rosie Revere Engineer will be back next Wednesday at 10am. Meet us in the lobby.


Do this at home! Use your imagination to construct your own three-dimensional box inspired by artist Joseph Cornell. Instructions here.

ABOUT STORYTIME

Join Hirshhorn Kids on Wednesdays for a one-of-a-kind Storytime experience! Each week offers a fun and fresh theme for our youngest artists and their adults. Get a fun and hands-on introduction to a new artwork each week, and participate in a joyful read-aloud filled with music, stories, and movement. Then, stay and play while your little artist creates. No reservations or tickets required. Nursing caregivers are welcome. Stroller parking is available in the Hirshhorn Lobby. An ASL Interpreter may be requested for this program; two weeks advance notice is appreciated. For a group of ten or more, please contact mcgettigant@si.edu to reserve a program in advance.

Girls can do it! Put on your red bandana and join us for a special Storytime. We’ll look at an installation by artist Barbara Kruger, participate in a lively read-aloud of Rosie Revere, Engineer, by Andrea Beaty, and engineer our own works of art.

Do you know a budding architect? Let’s build! Join Hirshhorn Kids and our friends from the District of Columbia Public Schools- Arts,  Boolean GirlDistrict of Columbia Public Library, and children’s author Andrea Beaty for a hands-on exploration of design and building. We’ll celebrate student artists from DCPS, and feature activities to get everyone building and dreaming.

Find us on the Hirshhorn Plaza and throughout the Museum.  In the event of inclement weather this event may be modified.

Join us again next month! Maker Morning is the Hirshhorn’s free series held on a select Saturday of each month that invites kids of all ages to experience contemporary art through interactive hands-on making activities. Each month, we’ll introduce you to new activities and ideas, focused on this year’s theme of Be Transformed. Drop in and explore the Museum through engaging interactives, kids tours, and more. Activities take place throughout the Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Art Cart: Build with Balance

How do you like to build? Do you stack, balance, or otherwise combine materials? Join us at this week’s Art Cart to explore how different sculptures in Put It This Way were built and experiment with how we can create sculptures!

Find the Art Cart on the Third Level to pick up your balancing materials.


Do this at home! Balance your own mobile inspired by artist Alexander Calder! Instructions here.

Each week’s Art Cart offers a fresh and fun theme featuring an artwork on view, an artmaking activity to do at the Museum, and kids projects to extend the fun at home!

The Art Cart is free; no registration required. Drop in any Thursday between 10am-12pm. 

Stroller Parking is available in the Lobby and the Lower Level.

 

Art Cart: Build and Layer

Let’s give thanks for the power of art! Join us at the Art Cart to look closely at Mark Bradford’s: Pickett’s Charge and explore how stories are remembered.  Then, artists can create their own layered works and help make a world we are thankful for together!

Find the Art Cart on the Third Level to pick up your layering materials.
