Find the Art Cart on the Plaza to pick up (and make your own) collage materials.

Do this at home! Assemble a colorful self-portrait inspired by Niki de Saint Phalle’s Pink Lady. Use your favorite art materials and objects to show the colors, shapes, textures, and lines that represent you!. Instructions here.

An energetic collage portrait featuring light and dark blues, greens and whites.

ABOUT THE ART CART

Want to make art inspired by your favorite Hirshhorn works on view? The Art Cart offers young artists a hands-on maker experience during their visit to the Hirshhorn. Each week’s Art Cart offers a fresh and fun theme featuring an artwork on view, an artmaking activity to do at the Museum, and kids’ projects to extend the fun at home!

The Art Cart is free; no registration required. Drop in any Saturday between 10am–1pm.

This project received support from the Smithsonian American Women’s History Initiative Pool.

Storytime: My Voice

Activate your voice with us at this week’s Storytime. Take a close look at Challenge—America by Lois Mailou Jones, listen to a read aloud of Mi Voz by José Fragoso, then stay to create an artwork that amplifies your own voice!

Meet in the Museum Lobby.

Do this at home! What do you want to change? Assemble a collage inspired by Lois Mailou Jones’s Challenge—America. Choose a cause that you care about, and then arrange and rearrange images to create a collage that inspires change in your community! Instructions here.

A large, horizontally oriented collage has been created atop a rectangular piece of yellow construction paper.
