Maker Morning: Build Day

For kids (and adults!) of all ages

Do you know a budding architect? Let’s build! Join Hirshhorn Kids and our friends from the District of Columbia Public Schools- Arts,  Boolean GirlDistrict of Columbia Public Library, and children’s author Andrea Beaty for a hands-on exploration of design and building. We’ll celebrate student artists from DCPS, and feature activities to get everyone building and dreaming.

Find us on the Hirshhorn Plaza and throughout the Museum.  In the event of inclement weather this event may be modified.

Want to explore architecture before or after this event? Try these activities in the classroom or at home!

Art Cart: All About Water

Beat the heat this summer with a water inspired Art Cart! Young artists will explore the properties of water, experiment with creating miniature water fountains, and explore how artists use water in their art.

Find the Art Cart outside on the Plaza near the fountain.

Note: Young artists may get wet with hands-on projects! Please pack a towel to dry off your little ones if you choose to enter the museum after the Art Cart

Make art at home! Explore how artist Jiha Moon paints water in our Layered Landscapes project. Instructions here.

An ethereal, square canvas composed of pastel colors is hangs from a bare, white wall.

Want to make art inspired by your favorite Hirshhorn works on view? The Art Cart offers young artists a hands-on maker experience during their visit to the Hirshhorn. Each week’s Art Cart offers a fresh and fun theme featuring an artwork on view, an artmaking activity to do at the Museum, and kids projects to extend the fun at home!

The Art Cart is free; no registration required. Drop in any Thursday between 10am-12pm.

Stroller Parking is available in the Lobby and the Lower Level.
