Artists, Authors, and Others: Drawings by David Levine
Mar 04–Jun 06, 1976
This exhibition showcased 65 of David Levine’s (1926–2009) pen-and-ink caricatures of luminaries in the arts and letters, including his acerbic drawings of Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, Jackson Pollock, Ernest Hemingway, James Joyce, Thomas Mann, Igor Stravinsky, Gustav Mahler, Federico Fellini, Humphrey Bogart, and Charlie Chaplin. The exhibition, the first to originate at the Hirshhorn, included loans from many private and public collections, with four unpublished drawings among them.
