In his work Walden, Henry David Thoreau wrote: “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer.” On view in this exhibition were approximately 80 paintings, sculptures, and works on paper by nine post-World War II American artists known for idiosyncratic, individualistic approaches to their work: Wallace Berman, Clyde Connell, Bruce Conner, Öyvind Fahlström, Robert Helm, Alfred Jensen, Jessm, Luis Jiménez, and Peter Saul.
