Hirshhorn Plaza

This was the second and final showing of an unprecedented exhibition including more than 450 works by 40 artists, including Chagall, Exter, and Malevich. The development of Russian avant-garde art was presented in chronological order. In addition to paintings and sculptures, works on view included an abstract environment and a full-scale stage set with costumes; clothes, dinnerware, architectural models, and furniture design; and books, collages, and other representations. Running continuously in the exhibition area was a 20-minute audiovisual presentation. The exhibit was organized by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Most works were on loan from collections in Europe and North and South America.
