Hirshhorn Plaza

On view were 31 photographs of some of this century’s best-known American and European artists in their studios or at work, taken by Arnold Newman (1918-2006) between 1940 and 1961. Artists photographed include Edward Hopper, Piet Mondrian, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall, and Jackson Pollock. The exhibition was organized from a group of Newman photographs that came to the Museum with the Joseph H. Hirshhorn Bequest of 1981.
