Bridging the Century: Images of Bridges from the Museum’s Collection
Mar 11–May 24, 1987
Drawn from the Museum’s permanent collection, this exhibition traced the use of the bridge in contemporary art as a symbol of modern technology and the urban environment. Included were some 40 paintings and works on paper, primarily from the early 20th century, by Ralston Crawford, Thomas Eakins, Joseph Stella, and others, as well as photographs from the seminal magazine Camera Work.
