Meet the Artist: Wayne Gonzales
Thursday, September 13, 2012
7 pm, Lerner Room
New York-based painter Wayne Gonzales joins Alexander Dumbadze, assistant professor of art history at George Washington University, in a conversation about his recent work.
Gonzales is the multi-faceted artist who is known for his application of techniques that combine painterly craft with photographic technology. Gonzales’s paintings, like his Pentagon on view in Dark Matters, leave considerable space for free interpretation and it is the pause before his work that is needed to perceive its ultimate meaning. Gonzales’s work often has notable social or political content, drawing on sources such as photographs and documents that reflect the events of the last fifty years.
