The Hirshhorn announces the appointments of Roberta Catalinotto as director of development and Donna Drew Sawyer as director of communications and marketing. These two appointments fill out the Hirshhorn’s External Affairs management team led by Beth Tuttle, who joined the Hirshhorn in October 2004 as the director of external affairs.
“Their combined expertise in the successful planning and implementation of local, regional and national fundraising, public relations and strategic marketing efforts makes Catalinotto and Sawyer vital additions to the Hirshhorn team,” said director Ned Rifkin.
Catalinotto is a senior development executive with 18 years experience in annual and capital campaign management. She comes to the Hirshhorn from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., where she served in several development capacities, including as deputy chief development officer. During her four years as the museum’s national membership director, she raised nearly $52 million. As a principal in two California-based fundraising consulting firms, Catalinotto worked with more than 25 nonprofit organizations raising funds for social, cultural and environmental causes. In addition, Catalinotto held senior development positions at the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and the Jewish Federation of Orange County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and planning from Columbia University and participated in graduate studies at Columbia and Long Island universities.
Sawyer is a senior marketing and public relations executive with more than two decades of strategic communications experience. For the last two years, she has been a cultural marketing consultant for a variety of visual and performing arts clients, including the Studio Gallery of Washington, D.C., National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta and Mogale Arts Development Company of Mogale, South Africa. Previously, she was the director of marketing and communications for the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA and was manager of marketing and media relations for the Children’s Television Workshop in New York. Sawyer has a master’s degree in business administration from Texas Southern University and a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from New York Institute of Technology.
The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the nation’s museum of modern and contemporary art, celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and serves an estimated 700,000 visitors annually. The museum’s collection encompasses some 11,500 paintings, sculptures, mixed media installations and works on paper. The Hirshhorn maintains active exhibition and educational programs, examining and informing the public about the art of our time.
