The Photography of Leland Rice

This was the first exhibition of exclusively photographic works at the Hirshhorn. It consisted of 35 photographs by Leland Rice (b. 1940) in both black and white and color. Included were an early series of “portraits of chairs,” as the artist refers to them, as well as later works that utilize such themes as open doors and unadorned dark walls.
