Eight Members Have Joined Under the Leadership of New Director Melissa Chiu

The board of trustees of the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden welcomed five new members at a meeting Feb. 19. The election of Haryanto Adikoesoemo, Jill Bernstein, Stéphan Crétier, Trinh D. Doan and Jill Cooper Udall brings to a total of eight the members added to the board since Melissa Chiu became the Hirshhorn’s director Sept. 29. The first group of members recruited by Chiu joined the board in October: Janine W. Hill, Joleen Julis and Harold J. Newman.

“We are pleased to welcome a diverse slate of new trustees,” said Chiu. “As the Hirshhorn continues to celebrate its 40th anniversary, we are expanding the board to encompass a wider range of interests and expertise. In keeping with the museum’s increasingly international focus, we are adding trustees not only from the United States, but from Canada and Indonesia as well.”

“It is a time of excitement and growth,” said Peggy Burnet, the Hirshhorn’s board chair. “We welcome our new trustees as we enter a dynamic moment in time at the Hirshhorn. Melissa Chiu has brought robust activity to the museum.”
