Art Cart: Tricky Tree Hats
In celebration of the Fall season and Halloween, join us for a tree-inspired Art Cart. We’ll take a close look at artist Hiroshi Sugimoto’s Two Circles, supply nature-inspired books and materials, and create our own fall-inspired wearable works of art.
Find the Art Cart on the Plaza and pick up your wearable materials. In case of inclement weather, check in the Museum Lobby for our indoor location.
Do this at home! Have you ever wished you could blend in like a chameleon? Design your own wearable work of art inspired by Kusama’s Flowers—Overcoat and disappear into your surroundings! Instructions here.
ABOUT THE ART CART
Want to make art inspired by your favorite Hirshhorn works on view? The Art Cart offers young artists a hands-on maker experience during their visit to the Hirshhorn. Each week’s Art Cart offers a fresh and fun theme featuring an artwork on view, an artmaking activity to do at the Museum, and kids’ projects to extend the fun at home!
The Art Cart is free; no registration required. Drop in any Saturday between 10am and 1pm.
Art Cart: Creative Creatures
Celebrate Halloween with an Art Cart inspired by artist Judith Shea and her sculpture, Post-Balzac. Imagine who might wear this sculpture, create your own creature, and play with Halloween-inspired materials!
Find the Art Cart on the Plaza near the Fountain. In case of inclement weather, check in the Museum Lobby for our indoor locations.
Do this at home! Design your own wearable work of art inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s Flowers—Overcoat and disappear into your surroundings! Instructions here.

Storytime: Boos, Books and Blankets
Celebrate Halloween at the Hirshhorn at this week’s Storytime. Join us in your best creative costume, or come as you are to explore mysterious artworks at the Museum. Young artists will look closely at sculptures on the Plaza, cozy up for a read-aloud of Itsy Bitsy Spider by Emily Bannister, and design their own scary sculptures.
Meet in the Museum Lobby.
